Blade Show Purchases Sat/Sun video
Saturday my first day at Blade Show I went straight to the section with classic automatic knives and switchblades, specifically the Latham’s Vintage Knives booth hoping to get my hands on a Hubertus Shell Puller.

Mike Latham had both Red and Green dyed Bone Handle Hubertus Shell Pullers, brand new in the box. I chose the green, though the red looked great as well. I would like to add both white bone and stag handle Shell Pullers to my collection so I’ll keep on eye out.

The two Latama Italian Switchblades Mike had where both over my price point ($550/$1,100) but Mike had expressed interest in purchasing or trading a knife I owned and encouraged me to come back Sunday with the knife. With my first purchase of the show out of the way I moved on.
The booth across had two new small 7” Dolphins Maniago (D.M.) Italian Switchblades in white Pearlex handles. I have seen these online and considered purchasing but wanting to get some in hand first. The last two he had in stock had some flaws (most do, especially on the smaller knives) so I negotiated price down and picked one up just to have a D.M. in the collection. It’s a little flimsy and one side of blade drags the liner. QC on most Italian Switchblades is hit and miss. I’ll be interested to try a standard 9” size and see how much better the quality is.

I went by the Official Latama Booth and saw a few pieces I would really like to own but was not yet ready to pay the price as the lowest cost model was $390 show price, which is quite low for a Latama. Prices range around $550 up to $1,000 & even more for Customs. I still had a lot of show to see and wasn’t sure how much I would spend so I moved on.

That was all the Automatic Switchblade knives I purchased on Saturday. I came back Sunday and made an even swap with Mike Latham for a Latama Limited Edition Switchblade. This Limited Edition Latama had a lighter somewhat translucent horn handle. While this is desirable by many I really wanted a Brazilian Horn B/W handle Latama to go with my Frank Beltrame Brazilian Horn Switchblade. I also picked up an AKC Italy Classic 6” Lever Lock Switchblade Brazilian Horn for a trade and cash.

Back to the Latama Booth
Since becoming a Latama owner, I have developed an even stronger desire to acquire another, specifically the Black/White Brazilian Horn that I’ve been wanting. I head straight to the Latama booth and after some discussion with James Fang, I successfully acquire the one I’ve had my eye on in Primo Black/White Brazilian Horn.

I am now the proud owner of two Latamas, a Limited Edition and a new in the box Walt’s Classic Brazilian Horn! Now time to add a 9” Pick Lock in Rams Horn and a Ring Pull to the collection!

Why Latama?
Latamas are highly sought-after Italian Switchblades renowned for their exceptional quality standards and materials. Latama, a US-based vendor, has historically collaborated with Italian knife maker Frank Beltrame to produce their knives. Latama requires Frank Beltrame to adhere to higher quality standards than their own brand knives. This means Latama knives often have better fit and finish, solid nickel silver bolsters instead of hollow stainless steel, and thicker blades and springs (5mm compared to 4mm & 3.5mm). Latama utilizes materials like high-quality 440 stainless steel for blades and premium handle materials.

The Latama booth also featured some innovative modern knives:

Had I not spent so much, I would have certainly purchased the The Virtu Titanium Button Lock knife by James Fang.
AKC Italy
I hesitate to buy AKC genuine Italian knives due to confusion caused by the “AKC World” sub-brand for non-Italian made knives and the prevalence of counterfeit AKC knives. I’ll create a post and video to identify counterfeits from genuine Italian-made AKC Switchblades.
Counterfeit products are prevalent. Purchase from reputable sources and thoroughly verify online purchases, as counterfeit returns are becoming more common.

Though it took 2 days and a lot of cash, I acquired the two collector pieces I wanted most: a German Hubertus Shell Puller and Latama Italian Switchblade.
Why? Incase some socs roll up on me in “Mustangs and madras” lol.

Axial Knives: axialknives.com
I stumbled upon the Axial Knives Booth during the last 30 minutes of the show on Sunday. I’ve heard great things about their OTFs, and after handling one, I understand why. “The Axial Shift OTF is made in the USA with premium materials and refined engineering, delivering a smooth and reliable action.” It’s as smooth as any OTF I own and less expensive than many. At $259 MSRP, it offers great value for cost.

I really like how the Fat Carbon Fiber inlays make this knife stand out, I prefer them over the all-aluminum handles. The Arctic Storm CF will pair well with the rest of my Fat Carbon lineup.
