Our Goal

The Goal of this Tutorial is to Teach you to Understand How to Solve your Puzzle on your own, not get it back to a solved state by copying me.

How to use this tutorial

To gain familiarity with what we are about to learn, first attempt to solve the puzzle on your own for a few minutes before watching the tutorial.

You will have to get familiar with and comfortable handling your puzzle (holding it, turning it etc.).  You will also have to practice, make mistakes, and fail many times before you become proficient at solving any puzzle.

This tutorial is broken down into Steps with Stages:
Overview: Overview of what we need to do and why
– Solve: I show how we solve the Step
– Troubleshooting: I show potential problems we may encounter
– Practice Strategies: I show how to practice the Step

To properly Learn & Understand, do not skip ahead “shortcuts get you lost when not yet familiar with the path”

At the beginning Intro of the Puzzle Tutorial I give an Overview of the Puzzle, how it works, the Method we will use to solve it and Puzzle Nomenclature. Watch this fully at least once. I have provided Timestamps to each Step and Stage for Subsequent Viewings.

For each Step, first fully watch the Overview, Solve and Troubleshooting Stages, then when directed to, practice with the Practice Strategies shown. It’s important to Not try to match and follow my every turn! There are millions of possible combinations, this Tutorial with teach you to Understand How to Solve any possible combination. Watch the Overview, Solve & Troubleshooting Stages fully before attempting yourself.

I recommend practicing and becoming proficient at a Step before proceeding onto the next Step. You will not grasp this on your first viewing and first attempt, but think of it this way…

You don’t have failures you just have learning & practice opportunities.

There is absolutely no reason to get upset or frustrated if you don’t understand something immediately or make a mistake that scrambles your puzzle. That is for lesser people.  You learn better through failures and it just gives you a practice opportunity to repeat the process to get back to that point of failure.  You need practice and repetition to get good at anything so don’t get upset about another practice opportunity.

Always remember this, in life it seldom matters how fast you learn something… but rather how well you learn and understand something.

Once you can repeatedly perform a step and you feel you understand that step, you can move on to the next step. When learning more complicated Puzzles, don’t learn too many steps in the same day. Allow some sleep in between to boot the information in the brain.

Remember, it seldom matters how fast you learn something… but rather how well you learn and understand something.

Learning Turns and Algorithms

There are a few ways to learn the turns and algorithms, just memorize them through repetition or watch and understand how the turns & algorithms affect the pieces.  I recommend a combination of both. Repetition to get the muscle memory down but also watching and understanding how the pieces are being manipulated.  Any method you use to successfully accomplish your goal is a successful method.

5 Keys to Success with this Puzzle Tutorial

1) Don’t get impatient. We are here to learn and there is no rush! It seldom matters how fast you learn something, but how well you learn and understand something.

2) Don’t skip ahead.  On first viewing watch all the video up to the step you are working on. You will miss important information that will cause you frustration & take more time than had you just watched and not skipped ahead.  Shortcuts get you lost and take longer!

3) Don’t be a quitter and don’t be lazy. Lesser people quit at the smallest obstacle, greater people persevere. Which are you?

4) Understand that each Step will be shown and explained with notation given when needed.  You are not intended to copy me turn for turn but to pause the video and practice the step at least 6 times before proceeding to the next step (why 6?). If you would like to copy me turn for turn hit the Gear icon and set playback speed slower but keep in mind the third time I demonstrate the same move and do it quickly is not the one to watch to learn it.

5). Practice, Practice, Practice!  To get good at anything you must practice.  While practicing think about what you are doing critically and logically.  Watch what changes are made by each turn.  Try to understand the “how” and “why” rather than just blindly following instructions.

Good luck and pay it forward!
Once you learn, try to take time to teach others and introduce them to a hobby that will stimulate critical thinking and problem solving. It’s gotta be better than having kids grow up staring at phones like mindless zombies learning to blame all their problems on others.
